An exhibition that brought the eye of the viewer into the intimate space of wildflowers, usually seen only when on the forest ground. Artist Stephanie Jakovac invited the viewer to get close and observe the minute details of beautiful native flora found in the Australian bush.
The exhibition offered the viewers a context for understanding and appreciating native flora and becoming aware in particular of the threat of bushfire and its consequences to native flora and the environment. Bushfires can be destructive and threatening to life and property but also regenerative. They are a natural feature of our ecosystem. Bushfires include the processes of destruction and conservation.
Artists statement: ‘I wish to convey the sensory experience of the native bush flowers during the fires and the human involvement trying to contain the destructive side of a major bushfire as well as the regeneration and freshness of the native flora, which is often not seen by people with busy lives.’
